Quebec City

Checking into our accommodation proved to be a challenge in itself. Ill be honest my French is not good at all. Every street sign is in French, there are enough one way 'Rue' (streets) to send anyone insane. We are staying just outside the main city walls, and I can assure you we completed 3 laps around this area just to find this place.

All of these places look the same.. But it is amazing on the inside. Grand Allee hotel.

Main City Gates

We Decided to self guide around the city. We started with the fortified wall tour. 4.5 kms of reinforced walls to protect the city.

Perfect way to start a tour of an old city
After a brief walk around these walls you can start to get an understanding of the defense strategy that they had to implement in order to make this fortress impenetrable. The french were smart with the use of flanking prevention.
This was my favorite part. Take a close look at this picture. You will see for your self that it was impossible to get close to the walls without loosing half of your army. The design was used in over 45 fortresses in France and remained undefeated.
On display, many of the original cannons used on the flanks
.

Peeping through to the outside world.
Easy to shoot Out, But Harder to shoot in through a small hole

I still question how effect this one was, No barrel = No Aim

 I got this one, Sir.

Ok, Very Funny

Le Grande .. Something. A hotel back in those days

Dear Nanna,
This is where one of your post cards got sent from.

This is called Poutine. French fries with gravy and cheese curds. Look healthy, Eh.

Actually Quebec is the location where it all started, Lunch.

After our amazing health lunch, we headed to the lower township. The old original township. This is where the french landed ashore. But when the British arrived they setup camp on the other side of the river and shelled 14,000 rounds onto this town. Once they took over, they rebuilt all of it to what we see today.  The original cobble stone it still in place.

Old township bellow

Location where the British setup and shelled the old town. The French did not have any cannons powerful enough to match the British.

The Le Grande.... hotel from the old township, Old township is located outside of the fortified city walls.

Military Barack's

Main City Entrance

They need these short buses to get around the town, the streets are very narrow and the corners are mostly 90 degree angles.

If this isn't funny enough. check out this ladder truck

I didn't think this was possible. But then again there is that guy driving the back wheels.

All in 1 turn, no 2-3 point turn.
